The Past Three Years...

For the past 3 years I've been living in New York, writing songs and playing shows whenever and wherever I can. Moving to NYC in 2011 was a huge step for me. I'd been living in Austin for 18 years and had become extremely complacent and depressed. After putting all of my energy and focus on a project called "Murder My Sweet" with my pal Mark Younger-Smith, only to see it go nowhere, I was done. I didn't want to so much as look at a guitar much less write a song. I had a sour taste in my mouth in dealings with fickle music industry types and I just needed a break. After that, I spent the better part of a year doing absolutely nothing. The opportunity arose to move to New York in 2011 and I was quick to say yes! I needed a change in a big way and New York sounded so good. We packed our bags and hit the road. This was one of the best decisions I've made in my life. I have been quite successful in the retail industry here in the city. Having always loved fashion and design and with my experience working at an amazing boutique/atelier in Austin, (Blackmail Boutique) I was able to land my first job. I quickly climbed up the ladder and eventually became a Store Manager for a well known British clothing brand. I was happy for the first 2 years, then it started again. All the while, that old music bug never went away. I was doing a little writing here and there and even played some shows at a really great venue here in the city called Rockwood Music Hall. So far, I've been getting a great response from the locals. I've been asked to play several different venues and have met some really great musicians. It's been 3 years since I left Austin and I'm better in every way possible. I'm a better songwriter, singer, guitarist and more importantly, a better person. I have learned from my mistakes and am proud of my accomplishments. I am ready for the next chapter to begin. I hope its good.
